~Composting DO'S and DONT'S~

DO Compost

-newspaper strips and paper egg cartons

-clothing made with biodegrable materials like cotton, silk, and wool

-fruit pits from magos, avocados, peaches, plums, etc.

    -tea leaves and coffee grinds

-fallen leaves, pine needles, twigs, newspaper strips, plastic egg
    cartons and dryer lint*

* (These are what you call "brown material." Brown material
is dry or woody plant based material that is essential to a healthy compost bin
because it assits in the overall fast break down of the compost.)

DO NOT Compost

-acidic foods such as lemons, oranges, limes, and onions

-milk and meat products such as chicken, salmon, bacon, butter, and cheese*

-plastic items like food wrappers, plastic bags, and plastic water bottles

-greasy foods such as chips, fries, and sausage*

-pet waste from cats and dogs

-bread products including cakes, pasta and baked goods

* (All products that are either milk-based, made up of meat, or considered greasy should
NEVER be put in composts. This is due to them attracting unwanted pests that could
harm your worms and/or the nutrients inside your bin.)

~Recycling DO'S and DONT'S~

DO Recycle

-ketchup, mustard, peanut butter, and mayo containers*

-glass items like jelly/jam containers, soda bottles, and dressing bottles*

-aluminum soda cans and clean aluminum foil*

-paper towel and toilet paper cores

    -plastic water bottles**

    -milk, juice, and yogurt containers*

    -cardboard and printer/lined paper

* (Before recycling anything make sure there is a recycling triangle on the bottom of
your item Even though you may know it's recyclable, it's a good habit to have.
Not only that, but all containers must be rinsed out before recycled.)

** (Instead of using a disposable plastic water bottle everyday you can use a reusable
water bottle. Even though plastic water bottles are recyclable, many still don't
get reused, and end up in the landfill anyway.)

DO NOT Recycle

    -toilet paper, paper towels, tissues

    -clothing and loose fabric

-food wrappers, bubble wrap, styrofoam, and plastic bags*

    -batteries, dishes, lightbulbs, and mirrors**

    -plastic or wooden toys*

    -electronics

    -leftover food

* (Just because something is made out of plastic doesn't mean it's recyclable. Plastic
water bottles, not food wrappers, bubble wrap, plastic bags, or plastic toys, are
the only type of plastic you can recycle.)

** (Not all glass items are recyclable. Glass food containers can only be recycled if they
have a recycling triangle on the bottom. Other glass items such as lightbulbs,
mirrors, etc., however, should never be put in the recycle bin.
